Mobile Responsive

Having a website that works on all devices is a very important aspect of web development

Going mobile

In the past 4 years, worldwide mobile use has grown nearly 400%, and nearly 20% of users between 18-34 spend all their online time on a mobile device. So creating a website designed to be displayed on both hand-held devices and desktop computers is the way to go!

1

Dynamic content

The content of the website is dynamic and it changes based on the screen size. The navigation is condensed and it's displayed differently based on the available space.

2

Optimized resources

All images are optimized, stylesheets and javascript files are minimized so the website has improved performance over the slower internet connections on mobile devices.

3

Correct spacing and padding

Spacing is very important in webdesign, and to have a website that looks consistently good over different screen sizes is the goal. And if it's responsive, it can be designed this way!

Google favors mobile friendly sites

On April 21, 2015, Google released an updated search ranking algorithm that favors mobile-friendly websites over non-friendly ones in it's mobile search results. The change was significant (dubbed by some as the Mobilegeddon). The effect of it was that a large number of websites were dropped from the 1st page to secondary or 3rd pages.

Do you need to switch?

If a large majority of your web traffic is coming from mobile devices - at least 35%, it might be a good time to switch to a responsive design.

A longer life

If you plan to have a longer shelf life for your website and you want it to appear up-to-date for longer, designing it to be responsive is a good way!
